We don't just "honor" catch and release, we enforce it.

August 30, 2009

This was an exciting week! Lots of dorado, from small schoolies of 4-10 pounds to a number of monsters that tipped the scales in excess of 45 pounds.

Yellowfin tuna were back in good numbers too. Although the majority were small to intermediate in size from 8 to 20 pounds, several weighed in at 65 to 70 pounds and two exceeded 85 pounds! Remember, Pro Team releases all billfish, but tuna and dorado are yours if you want them for dinner or choose to take them back to the states.

Both dorado and tuna were a bit farther offshore (25 miles or so) than the sails, which seemed to prefer more inshore waters at 10 to 12 miles. Two sails were caught and released within 8 miles of the marina.

Rigged ballyhoo were the preferred bait for dorado and sails, but this week’s blue marlin took live bonito. One blue release was well over 120” and estimated at 400 pounds.

So, there’s a nice assortment of game fish (and meat for the freezer) just waiting on your visit. Weather ? Hot! Seas? Generally calm with a slow 1-2 foot swell in the early morning and a 2-3 foot chop developing in late morning and early afternoon. Some passing showers but not enough to dampen the spirits of happy anglers.
